Last weekend Gainsborough celebrated their 10th successive Riverside Festival and the people of Gainsborough were not disappointed. The fantastic family day out saw live music acts, arts and crafts and local businesses out in force entertaining the Riverside faithful.

The festival is now completely managed by the community with a dash of help from a festival co-ordinator to arrange the planning, logistics and bookings. Festival organiser Gary Cooke from Gainsborough Town Council said ” I’ve received almost entirely positive feedback and am amazed by what we achieved.”

The highlight of the festival had to be the huge parade that snaked its way through the site, whilst being interviewed by members of The Young Journalist Academy from local school Trent Valley Academy Tim Davies the festival chair said “It’s been the biggest parade yet, when we were at Barnes jewellers it was still coming out of the church!”

It was great to see such community spirit and such a range of people attending this wonderful event. Chris Hall from the Gainsborough Target said “It was excellent and provided free entertainment for thousands at a time of economic uncertainty. The Riverside Festival is THE summer event.” Students from local school Trent Valley Academy performed songs and showcased dance routines keeping festival go-ers entertained and at the other end of the festival crowds were kept dancing all afternoon by bands like Stereoepic.

Watch a film of the day and then book the time off for next year’s festival. as it is going to be bigger and better.
