Tesco in trouble for ‘Fun gifts for boys’ sign

t2Tesco, one of the UK’s leading stores, has been experiencing hard times recently, suffering from competition from Aldi and Lidl. Now they’re in more trouble after promoting ‘Fun gifts for boys’ which prompted the fury of a seven-year-old girl!

The store has removed the sign following a complaint from little Maggie Cole from Dorset. Tesco now realises that some girls do like things such as superheroes or football figures or T-shirts!

Tesco apologised for it and changed the sign to ‘Fun gifts for girls and boys’.

“I think that the sign was a bit sexist, I totally agree with everyone being slightly annoyed,’ commented a Year 6 from a Lincoln school. “I think it’s wrong for them to have done that and it was good to take them down.”

Another pupil felt more strongly: “I think it is disgusting that Tesco would do such a thing and I think that girl was right to stick up for gender.”

Maggie’s mum posted a picture of her daughter standing next to the sign and it has been re-tweeted more than 10,000 times!

This is a brilliant article. I’m a girl and I like football so sometimes I get a bit angry at some shops!
