Over a hundred youngsters, typically aged 13, or just over, from Lincolnshire will be having a very busy five days, as they complete their induction period with the cadets. The annual Easter Camp is a great opportunity for them to demonstrate that they have absorbed the basics and are now ready for the next phase of their training.

The camp, on the outskirts of Newark-on-Trent, will be buzzing with activity as cadets soak in advice on how to drill in unison, handle weapons in a safe and responsible manner, shoot clays, learn first aid and lots more.

Bill Thompson, an adult volunteer with the Army Cadet Force, said, “For many cadets, this will be their first time away from home and a period in their lives that they’ll never forget. Friendships will be forged, as together they push themselves to achieve things they may not of thought possible.”

The organisers have worked hard to ensure that there is a good balance of fun and learning. “Having a great time in a structured environment is, for me, what the cadets is all about,” Bill added.

The climax of the camp will take place on Wednesday, when family and friends will be present for the passing out parade, which will, no doubt, be a proud time for all concerned.
