Brendon Rodgers admits Liverpool need big names
Liverpool manager Brendon Rodgers has admitted that his team need some big names to improve their performance, for example Karim Benzema. Anfield fans will be heartened to hear that the owners have intimated that they will support the club and give them the money they need to sign marquee signings this summer.
Speaking after his side’s embarrassing 1-0 defeat to Hull which has left a huge dent in their Champions League ambitions, Brendon Rodgers conceded that his current squad does need strengthening. Although, some Liverpool supporters could argue that he is only echoing what was said last summer. The reality was they didn’t do anything apart from weakening the squad.
Many will say that Liverpool have failed to cope following the sale of Suarez and the unfortunate injuries of Daniel Sturridge.
“You can’t hide the fact we’ve lost over 50 goals,” Rodgers said.
“Even with those players we weren’t tipped to get in the top 4 and we haven’t got those players now. We have to work with what we’ve got.
“We have to look to improve the squad and it’s always great if you can get marquee players to come in and help you. The owners will support that.”
So now we know. Brendon Rodgers wants to buy some top quality players to help Liverpool slide into the top 4 next season and the owners are expected to fund his plans. But, when it comes to the crunch, will they sign the cheques?
