Boston High School at Lincoln Castle for the launch of 1215.Today

800 years on yet still alive…

On Sunday 14th June 2015, 800 years since the Magna Carta was sealed, an invited group of 14-24 year olds attended a special launch of the 1215.Today website, participate in a range of activities in the newly refurbished men and women’s prison; A very apt place for such an event.
The event marked an end to a jam packed weekend of celebrations. From the dance group Diversity to popular children’s favourite Horrible Histories all participating when even the poor weather couldn’t dampen people’s spirits.
The 1215.Today event was set up as though it was a virtual website situated in the prison cells of Lincoln Castle.

There were various activities happening in each cell. King John made an appearance on the night too. One student from Boston High School, Swatee, soon became the enemy after questioning his historical views. This all added to the excitement of the evening as points to the current human rights act and the injustice and prejudice around the world were made.

In other cells there were activities such as dressing up as people such as matrons and prison wardens.
The experience made all who attended really think about the significance of the Magna Carta and what impact it had then and what impact it still has on people’s lives today.
These celebrations shall continue over the next couple of years. As this historical charter is remembered the impact it has made shall continue to resonate through generations to come.
