Halfpenny Misses Out on RWC
During the 23-19 victory over Italy, the 26-year-old Welsh fullback tore his knee ligaments and was carried off on a stretcher.
He tweeted a thank you to all his fans for their support and backed Wales to win this autumn’s RWC.
“Whilst I’m gutted I won’t be able to see through this particular journey, I’ve no doubt the squad has what it takes to go all the way,” he said.
British and Irish Lions player, Halfpenny and scrum-half Rhys Webb were both ruled out of the World Cup following their injuries in the warm-up win against Italy.
Now that Halfpenny is out, Liam Williams will have to follow in his footsteps but, worryingly for Wales, he has not played since having foot surgery in June.
“I am devastated not to be taking part in the 2015 World Cup but injuries are part of professional sport and life has to go on,” added Halfpenny.
After starting their World Cup campaign against Uruguay, Wales have a tough run of games playing hosts England, Fiji and Australia in their remaining Pool A matches.
This was always a difficult group, now made harder for Wales with the absence of two of their best players.
