BBC Children in Need has raised over £600 million to change the lives of disadvantaged children and young people in the UK. The annual telethon takes place tonight  and has been presented by Terry Wogan since it began in 1980 but this year Sir Terry has had to pull out at short notice as he has injured his back so Dermot O’Leary has stepped in to make sure the show goes on.

At Monks Abbey we have combined Children in Need and Reading Week and have come to school dressed as our favourite characters from the world of books. Maja from Yr 4 told the YJA Newsroom, “It has been really fun and has been great seeing everyone dressed up to help a great charity!”

We arranged interviews with a couple of teachers and two students to see what they had to say about Children in Need day. Miss Beckett (Mary Poppins) said, “It was fantastic to see so many boys and girls dressed up in assembly this morning.” To see our interviews and a few of the amazing costumes on show watch our film below.

Catch all the fun on BBC 1 tonight from 7:30pm.

I enjoyed waching the video because it was fun dressing up and sending the charity of childrren in need. I am also in the young journalist academy and my friends are in the video. It was awesome watching everyone talking. Some of the children even spoke to the teachers! If you haven’t watched the video then I think you should. If you are about to watch it then have fun.
