c1UK Sport believes that Team GB will manage to win 79 Olympic medals this summer in Rio and exceed their 2012 tally.

Team GB won 65 medals in the London 2012 Olympics and 120 at the Paralympics.

“If all Olympic stars play at their top quality level and make no mistakes, we could reach 79 medals,” quoted Simon Timson, the UK director of performance. “We can be confident, it will be our best away games in our history.”

However, he did say that that if we do make a mistake, 79 medals won’t happen!

In the London 2012 Olympics Great Britain won 29 gold medals, 17 silver medals and 19 bronze medals. Team GB came third in the overall medals and cycling was our best sport.

Timson believes that Team GB will be a very strong this year. “I am sure will get a place in the top five of the overall medal leader board,” he says.
