The History of YouTube

The history of YouTube is phenomenal. The three legendary founders are Chad Hurley, Steve Chen and Jawed Karim. They came up with this idea out of a garage in Menlo park, California in the USA.

Originally all employees of PayPal, the trio thought of the idea because they found it hard to share videos with each after a work event and began to work on an online platform that would enable video sharing in a much easier way.

We know YouTube is popular but just how popular? Well, lets have a look at some of the stats.

YouTube has over a billion users–almost a third of all people on the Internet–and every day, people watch hundreds of millions of hours of YouTube videos and generate billions of views.

What about this, a whopping  300 hours of YouTube footage is uploaded to the site every minute! quite mind boggling if you actually think about the amount involved.

And those who watch the YouTube videos through Facebook. The number of days worth of YouTube videos that are viewed every minute on the social media site is 323.

The site is mainly used for sharing videos to the world or just friends and family who can’t be easily contacted. So there we have it, the history of YouTube in a nutshell. Who knew that there was more to this internet sensation? I certainly didn’t. Did you?
