Meet the crime-stopping robot

In the USA the company Knightscope has introduced security robots to reduce the amount of thefts.

Their K5’s have broadcasting and innovative monitoring capabilities to help them look out for thieves in large stores and car parks.

The smart robot has a 360 degrees view that is sent to a control computer. This great piece of kit sends a message to the main computer and makes an alarm sound to scare criminals if they try to block the camera.

This robot is bound to take the next step to the future as it also has motion sensors to stop it bumping into things and GPS for a bird’s eye view. The main computer can see what the robot can, as it receives all its captured footage.

The robot is made to look friendly so that genuine shoppers feel safe.

In the immediate future, these robots will not replace store security guards, but Knightscope does see them as very valuable assistants to human security teams.

Great article Lewis, luckily it isn’t as intimidating as Robocop. I liked the title ‘Meet the crime-stopping robot’.
