Tottenham’s Trials and Tribulations: IMO #3

F2Hi, I’m Will from Heighington Millfield Primary Academy, I am a keen journalist and football fan, that is why I’m re-launching my football-based series of articles called IMO (standing for ‘in my opinion’). I will add to this series once a month, so you can look forward to some new footy articles arriving at the YJA website!

totThird in the Barclays Premier League last season, Tottenham Hotspur, in their Champions League encounter against Monaco, struggled to find their feet against a strong French side, resulting in a 2-1 loss. In my opinion it did not reflect on the success of their season.

Looking back at the 2015/16 season, Tottenham had no uphill battle to face for second place, on the last day of the season all they had to do was beat already relegated and bottom of the table Newcastle. They lost 5-1! My dad, a passionate football fan and a lifelong Tottenham fan, even muttered: “That is one of the lowest of the lows.” And that’s from a very loyal Spurs fan!

However, Tottenham did battle unbelievably hard to get to that spot in the league, at one point they were competing with Leicester!

Was it deserved though? In my opinion it was, if you take a summary of the game and read it thoroughly then you would find that Tottenham may as well have had no defence!

Spurs now have left themselves with an uphill battle in Group E of the UEFA Champions League. (The other game in that group was between CSKA Moscow and Bayer Leverkusen, the game ending at 2-2, which leaves Spurs in a hole at the bottom of the group.)

Tottenham’s next game in Europe is against CSKA Moscow, if they play to their normal standard then it might just be a walk in the park, however if they repeat that Monaco debacle, we could see Tottenham crashing out of the competition!
