New Olympic Sports

The Olympic and Paralympic games have only just finished in sunny Rio in Brazil and already people are looking forward to the next Olympic spectacular. The 2020 Olympic hosts are Tokyo. They have not only been lucky enough to host the Olympics but also get the chance to  choose four new sports to add to all the other amazing sports already in the Olympics.

Could you be on a surfboard in Tokyo in 4 years?

X-games riders will now appear at the Olympics.

The new sports are going to be: skateboarding, surfing, karate and climbing. The Olympic committee has approved these new sports to entertain us even more and I’m pretty sure the sight of someone winning a gold medal on a surfboard or a skateboard will be pretty cool.

Nicole from the YJA team said, “I think it will be really cool to see surfing at the next Olympics, it looks lots of fun!”

3,000 years ago the Olympic games was created but it was nowhere near what it is today. Women were not allowed to compete or even to watch. As it was a men’s competition, it had dangerous sports like pankration, wrestling and even chariot racing. Citizens of Greece were the only people allowed to compete. 20,000-40,000 people attended the 1st Greece Olympic games and who could blame them, after all it was the first ever!

So which four new Olympic sports would you choose to add to the Tokyo games? Comment below!

Well done Molly! I am so pleased to see your first article.
I wonder how they will judge climbing in the Olympics? Will athletes be climbing against the clock or gaining points depending on how challenging the climb is? I guess I will have to wait until 2020 to find out.

I think as I’m in America they should add quidditch and American football. It will be fun to watch men and women on brooms
