Footballer Saves Teammate’s Life
After Doumbia was knocked unconscious in a challenge with Sunderland’s Lamine Kone, Aurier attempted to save the Rostov player swallowing his tongue. Ivory Coast manager, Alain Giresse added that he spoke to Aurier after the game to thank him for his “superb reactions”.
All the players realised that Doumbia was choking and was about to swallow his tongue,” Giresse told a French radio station RMC. “That’s when Aurier quickly put him on his side and pulled out his tongue, because he was about to lose his life.”
One Daily Mail reader commented: “I think every player should learn to do this just in case because you’ll never know.”
Another positive for Ivory Coast was they went on to win the game 3 – 1.
However, Aurier later caused a controversy by making a throat gesture toward the crowd after the side got their third goal. The celebration was the latest in a string of incidents involving the fullback. In September he was charged for elbowing a police office in the face and faced two months in jail. However, Aurier’s wealth saved him that indignity and he escaped with a fine.
In February he used homophobic language to his manager Laurent Blanc. And to add to the mix, he was criticised for calling his teammate Angel Di Maria a “clown” when he answering questions from his fans on social media app Periscope.
