The Windows 9 Mystery

Microsoft, the massive technology company we all know, makes their own computer OS (Windows). It started with Windows 1.0 released back in1985. This had very little popularity until the next version when things started to pick up in Windows XP. After a couple of updates, Windows became one of the most popular operating systems and as it popped up in rankings it caught up with its enemy – the hugely successful technology company trading under the name of Apple. This really stung Apple and the two organisations battled it out for sales supremacy.

On August 1st 2012 Microsoft released Windows 8, which become the world’s most popular OS, for a little while anyway but this stopped when IOS 6 became available.

In July 2015 Microsoft finally released Windows 10 however, this confused many people as they thought Windows 9 was up next. Loyal users kept sending Microsoft emails such as: ‘Where’s Windows 9?’ or ‘You missed my favourite number out!’.

Microsoft claimed that they never made Windows 9 due to a small joke: ‘why is 6 scared of 7? Because 7 eight 9’. Almost everyone believed this joke and let Microsoft off the hook. However, some people decided to delve further and find out if this joke was really true.

After months of exploring, one person found a secret link deep within the Microsoft website so they clicked it and it came up with a secret Windows 9 download link. It was meant to be a secret to only the staff at Microsoft although within a week the news was worldwide.

Let’s leave the last words to

‘The real reason why Windows 9 was ditched? We reckon it was simply because Microsoft wanted to literally put some distance between the flop that was (and still is) Windows 8 and its successor. It’s a psychological play and was reference to the fact that Windows 10 is a big step on, and far removed, from Windows 8.”

Very proud of Toby, and a great article to read. Now I know what happened to Windows 9. Keep up the good work.

Great article, personally, I don’t believe that Microsoft, such a huge company, would completely ditch a whole operating system because 7 ate 9!
