Injured Billy Vunipola to miss Six Nations

England’s Six Nations’ prospects took a blow when their outstanding No 8, Billy Vunipola, injured his knee in last Saturday’s game against the Pumas.

Even though they beat Argentina they lost their most valuable asset who has a torn cartilage.

“Billy’s been absolutely fantastic for England over the last 11 months and we wish him a quick recovery,” said England head coach Eddie Jones.

Tomorrow at Twickenham, England will host Australia, their final opponents of 2016. In what has been a pulsating autumn of international rugby, England remain unbeaten although both Ireland and Scotland have made big strides forward too.

Vunipola is replaced by Nathan Hughes, who makes his first start for England. Nathan has some very big boots to fill and how well he plays will be key for England.

If they win at Twickenham, England will have gone through 2016 unbeaten, something not even the great All Blacks have achieved.

Vunipola’s club, Saracens, will be very upset that they are without him as they resume their European challenge.
