Pie in the Sky

An awesome photo of a pie and the curvature of the Earth

This meat and potato pie did something most of us would wish we could try, it travelled into space.

Thursday the 15th of December was a great day for pie lovers everywhere as at 11:30am from Roby Mill in Wigan a pie was launched into space attached to a weather balloon. The pie was launched to promote The World Pie Eating Championships.

The pie reached stratospheric heights thanks to a company in Sheffield called ‘Sent into Space’ who specialise in putting things into space. “It was in decent shape, apart from the fact the lid came off when it landed and it had broken into two pieces,” said Dan Blaney of Sheffield firm

The pie had climbed to a staggering 29,500m (97,000ft). Two and a half hours later it landed 50m from where it was launched. So what else will be launched into space? Who knows, leave me a comment on some ideas of what you would launch into space?
