Van Dijk’s EFL Final Doubt

Southampton defender, Virgil Van Dijk is highly likely to miss the EFL Cup final, when his club face Man Utd. It looks like the defender will miss this match due to injury.

His cruel setback happened when the Saints faced current champions, Leicester City, a game Southampton went on to win 3-0. During the match, Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy was involved in the challenge that resulted in a broken ankle for Van Dijk.

His injury meant Van Dijk missed an opportunity during the January transfer window to move to more glamorous clubs such as Manchester City, Chelsea or Everton. He will be unable to play for anything up to three months.

Saints boss Claude Puel, who now has ten injuries to cope with, said: “We know Virgil will stay out the team for a few weeks.

“For the moment I don’t know how many games he will be definitely out.”

Without his key defender, Puel thinks his defence will struggle against the Red Devils in the February 26th final.
