Vincent Van Gogh

Vincent Van Gogh was born  on the 30th of March in Zundert in the southern Netherlands. In 1869, he took his first job working in the Hague branch of an international art dealing firm. That job took him to London and Paris, but he was not interested in the work and was dismissed.

After that, he became a teacher in England, and then, deeply interested in Christianity, he became a preacher in a mining community in southern Belgium. In 1880, at the age of 27, he decided to become an artist. He moved around, teaching himself how to draw and paint. In 1886, Van Gogh travelled to Paris and met many artists including Degas, Toulouse-Lautrec, Pissarro and Gauguin.

Handle with care!! it is worth $66.3 million after all.

While working along side his friend Gauguin in the south of France, he created a painting called “The Allee of Alyscamps” painted by the man himself in 1888 and sold for a whopping $66.3 million at Sotherby’s in New York in 2015 by a mysterious Chinese art collector.

Starry Night – One of his best I think

Vincent Van Gogh had lots of siblings including: Theo Van Gogh (named after his father), Wil Van Gogh and Cornelis Vincent Van Gogh. His parents names were Anna Carbentus Van Gogh (mother), Theodorus Van Gogh (father).

Go check out some of Vincent Van Gogh’s  paintings including: The Starry Night, Poppy Flowers and Landscape with Snow. Don’t wait around go and check them out now!

Awesome article Poppy, especially for a year 5! Vincent Van Gogh was a one of a kind artist with an amazing taste for painting and drawing. Despite me not being in to art whatsoever, I can certainly respect what he has done to the world of art.
    Keep up the great work.
