Pep Guardiola needs Sergio Aguero more than ever
Sergio Aguero is one of the best strikers in world football and has proven in big games he can step up and be the right man for the job, however, Juan Jesus has been taking his place. Now the youngster is injured and may not be playing again for the rest of the season, Pep will definitely need Sergio more than ever.
When it comes to managers, Pep Guardiola is amongst the best in the world, and when it comes to teams, Man City are amongst the best in the world. So a perfect match some would think, however they would be extremely wrong as the City boss has left Sergio Aguero out of the starting line-up on numerous occasions. Pep has just managed to get away with it as he has so much squad depth, but now that ploy can’t be used as Juan Jesus is injured.
In the first leg of their hotly contested tie against Monaco, Pep Guardiola’s side going forward were nothing short of outstanding. However, as the night wore on it turned out that they were somewhat of an open door at the back. In the highest-scoring game at this stage of the tournament’s 25-year history, City managed to win 5-3 and secure a place in the last 16.
Sergio Aguero played an absolutely key part in this victory and he proved to Pep just what he could do.
Last season, Sergio Aguero was battling it out with Harry Kane for the Premier League’s Golden Boot, just pipping him at the post. If that doesn’t prove that he is world-class then I don’t know what does.
Since Pep has arrived, there have definitely been highs and lows to the strong but at times shaky Man City side. But to leave such a high profile player out of the side is, to say the least, very questionable.
Many City fans have been in uproar to witness their most talented player left on their bench. One lifelong fan said, “It is surely stupid of Guardiola to leave such a good player out the starting eleven. Maybe, as he progresses as a manager at City, he will understand the players more and get him regularly starting again – like he should be.”
Pep looks to have made a wrong decision to leave Aguero out of the starting line-up, but surely this will change soon as the player rapidly finds his feet, both in the Premier League and the Champions League.
