World Book Day 2017
Every year at Manor Leas we have World Book Day which means you can dress up as anyone to celebrate this great event – as long as it’s a character from a book. Also, the day before World Book day, you can choose any book you want to hear and one of your teachers in your school will read it to you.
World Book Day is a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and – most importantly it’s a celebration of reading. It’s the biggest celebration of its kind, designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and marked in over 100 countries all over the world.
Alex Hart, a year 5 student who came dressed as Harry Potter, claimed: “I really like World Book Day because I like dressing up as different characters.” Also, the school organized a raffle so people who wanted to enter brought lots of unwanted or unused books. You got a raffle ticket for every book you donated and these were pulled out in a whole school assembly. There were 6 winners altogether and these lucky children get to order any book of their choice to add to the library and to take home.
The funny part is that you got the chance to see your teachers all dressed up. A teacher from Manor Leas Junior Academy dressed up as ‘The Tiger that came to Tea’ and another came as ‘Where’s Wally?’. In the afternoon, children could design their own front cover of the book that they heard that day. Overall, it was a successful day. What did you guys get up to for World Book Day?
