FA Cup – Amazing scenes as ITV film at YJA school
There were amazing scenes today as an ITV film crew descended on Heighington Millfield Primary Academy to capture the atmosphere on the eve of Lincoln City Football Club’s greatest day in its history.
Tomorrow teatime the Lincoln Imps will be playing at the Emirates Stadium against the mighty Arsenal in the quarterfinals of the FA Cup! This is an astounding achievement for a non-league minnow like Lincoln and has, not surprisingly, prompted cup fever across the city.
Their victory over Burnley saw the fifth-tier club become the first non-league team in 103 years to reach the last eight.
YJA Co-editor, Bill Thompson recalls the last time Lincoln enjoyed the limelight:
“It was back in 2005, I was a community journalist working for BBC Lincolnshire and the Imps were at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium for the League Two Play-Off Final against Southend,” Bill reflects.
“It was a big encounter, which Lincoln lost 0-2, but it was nothing compared to Saturday’s game against Arsenal.”
YJA’s Will wrote about Lincoln’s cup exploits in his recent article and ITV, eager for an Imps-based story, spotted it after they googled the internet!
Listen to ITV’s Ben Chapman explain how he and his crew ended up at Heighington:
