Neymar’s Move to Old Trafford Won’t Happen
Manchester United have been underneath the nose of Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior because they are desperately keen to sign Barcelona’s highly gifted star. Rumours abound that the Red Devils are prepared to bid, hold your breath, £181 million for Neymar and if you’re like me you’ll think this to be a very silly over-the-top bid.
It is claimed that Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho views Neymar, who has scored 61 goals in 112 league for Barcelona, as a perfect fit for his squad at Old Trafford.
Sky Sports have reported: “The Brazil international last week revealed a love of Premier League football and said ‘any player would like to work’ with Mourinho or Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.”
No doubt Old Trafford fans would really like to have Neymar storming through the defence of every single Barclays Premier League team but the signing, according to Jose, is “impossible”. Why? Because the 25-year-old young Brazilian striker signed a 5-year contract at the Camp Nou this year and that means he will only be available in 2021 and by that time he would probably be close to retiring.
Even a wealthy club like Barcelona cannot afford to lose a sublimely talented player like Neymar, although everyone has a price. The Spanish club will be very aware that Lionel Messi is getting close to his 30s and Neymar will be even more valuable once the Argentinean has departed Camp Nou.
Asked about a possible move for Neymar, Mourinho told ESPN. “It’s speculation. I always try to be objective and pragmatic with clubs and to ask them what they can give to me. To ask for Neymar is absurd.”
