Squishies are the trendy, satisfying, and stress releasing squeezy toys that are becoming a bit of a trend.
Originating in Japan in 2011 the squishies have recently become rather popular on-line. Japanese company iBloom first started making their ‘Hello Kitty’ characters into ice creams, baguettes, peaches, and many more strangely squishy things.
Squishies are made out of PU, which stands for Polyurethane. An interesting fact about the material is they used to use to make aircraft coating out of it!
Youtubers have been posting lots unboxing videos of the squishy toys, and people are spending thousands of dollars on these toys. Famous Youtubers like CookieSwirlC have got over 3.5 million views on squishy unboxing, reviews, and collections. They have even made videos of them cutting up their precious squishies!
The Boston High YJA Newsroom decided to ask a group of students at school about what they think of this new craze? Emily from Yr10 told us, “They are a bit weird but I really like them. This one is a baguette and it feels really nice, hopefully it helps with GCSE stress haha.” YJA also spoke to Rebecca from Yr 8, she said, “These are amazing! I really like them. I think I’m going to get on-line and order one. This one smells nice too.”
Quite a few people commented on how the squishy smelt so we asked what they actually thought the baguette squishy smelt like? Here is a chart to show the results!
It seems Squishies may well be the next crazy internet fad, Squishy fan Nicola from Yr 7 said, “They make you feel really calm, and it’s really cool when new squishies come out!”
