Will’s Lions Round Up: No1

Decrease Font Size Increase Font Size Text Size Print This Page

This is my first article of my Lions series. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing all the gossip with you as the British and Ireland Lions prepare for the greatest test in world rugby – taking on New Zealand’s All Blacks.

There were a few selection surprises in the Lions squad, especially the news that England’s fullback, Mike Brown, has been overlooked. One could argue that he was well below his best in the 6 Nations and has paid the penalty

If any of the team selectors is reading, of the three scrum-halves selected, I think Conor Murray ought to make the test side. With his precision passing and nose for the try line, he will surely be a shoe-in, providing he fully recovers from his shoulder injury.

Outside him, at No 10, it has to be fellow Irishman, Jonathan Sexton. His kicking this year, both for Leinster and Ireland, has been amazing and was the undoing of England in the final 6 Nations match.

I think the team selectors have got the squad spot on in every place and it’s got my favourite player in.

My dream was to follow the Lions in New Zealand but I will support them through the TV and I hope that my dad gets me a shirt!

My favourite player, by the way, is England’s Owen Farrell because of his top-class kicking and passing. Pundits are predicting he’ll play outside Sexton at inside centre. Even the All Blacks would fear that combination!

The Lions start their 10-match tour on Saturday, 3 June.
