Cottesmore Millfield Academy – Race for Life

Race for life is a charity fun run raising money for Cancer Research UK. Most commonly, runners wear pink for loved ones affected by Cancer. Here at Cottesmore Millfield Academy, we took part in our own Race for Life.

Before the race, all the children of Year 5/6 prepared inspirational banners and posters to help encourage the racers to keep going. Some of the messages included: you can do it; don’t give up and give it all you’ve got. Madison, Nicole, Molly and Kara created their own starting sign filled with lots of glitter!

Once all the banners were created, we had a quick lunch break before heading out to the airfield. When we got to there, Mrs Thomas was waiting for us with some local radio stations and newspaper reporters. We were all filled with excitement and filled with energy so we took part in some army warm ups to get ready for the race.

After everyone was finished warming up, we started our race, some of the students ran quickly ahead while others kept to a more slow and steady pace. As we ran – or jogged – around the course we were getting more and more exhausted by the minute. But it was worth the sweat because everyone enjoyed themselves and had a great time.

Overall, our school raised a grand total of £2,615.00 which is 348% of our targeted £750. Everyone helped us raise for this amazing charity. We all know our money will make a big difference to hundreds of people suffering from cancer.

Thank you for all your support

Madison, Year 6
