Who is replacing Len ?
Do you enjoy watching Strictly Come Dancing? Well if you do you will no doubt of heard the news that show favourite Len Goodman is leaving the Saturday night show.
Strictly Come Dancing has been on our screens since 2004. The original panel of judges was, Craig Revel Horwood, Arlene Philips (later replaced by famous ballet dancer Darcey Bussell), Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli. But in breaking news this week Strictly fans learnt of the departure of Len Goodman. No need to be upset as the Queen of Latin (Shirley Ballas) is taking his place. Len had announced that he was going to leave in July 2016 because he had been on the show for 12 years. Shirley Ballas is no stranger to our screens though as she has been seen on the American hit show; Dancing with the stars.
Shirley Ballas first started dancing at the young age of seven. Shirley won her first important competition; the Latin World Championship at eighteen years old. By the time Shirley Ballas was twenty-three she had won all major worldwide titles (with partner Sammy Stopford). Ballas moved to Texas in 1983, where she met her husband and new dance partner, Corky Ballas. After that, she went on to great achievements like giving masterclass lessons on Dancing with the Stars (America’s version of Strictly).
Len is not retiring though as he will continue in his role on the American show Dancing with the Stars as well as continuing his show on BBC Radio 2. In a statement Goodman said, “This adventure began when I was 60 and now that I’ve reached my 70s, I’ve decided after this year it’s time to hand the role of head judge to someone else. It is an honour being part of the wonderful Strictly Come Dancing family and I’m looking forward to my last series very much and to whatever comes next.”
What do you think, do you think Shirley Ballas can bring a zing to Saturday night tv like Len Goodman? Please write your opinions in the comments section below.
