Snapchat Map Warning
158 million people in the world are using Snapchat so it’s hugely popular but, following a recent update, schools have been contacting parents about its possible dangers. Apparently, the new update can reveal your location thereby placing children at risk.
The Snap Map was launched on the 21st of June and lets random people browse at your location and photos; however, the company of Snapchat says: “The feature is optional and can be switched off at any time.”
A spokesman from the NSPCC said: “We know social media companies are constantly developing their platforms and we’d encourage them to provide signposted information for parents and young people, so they know how to keep themselves safe.”
With public accounts, this will include those who are not known to the user. This highlights why children are automatically offered safer accounts on social media to ensure they are protected from unnecessary risks.
