The Dangers of Social Media
We all know that social media is a brilliant way to chat to friends and see what is going on around the world. However, it’s not all good as there can be a lot of negative things going on behind the scenes.
Many people, when they download new apps, actually seem to ignore the terms and conditions and click ‘I agree’ without even checking. Children also fib about their age to get round app restrictions. Is this down to the parents for not taking the time to check their child’s device?
As so many people are not paying attention to these ‘Internet rules’, it is causing trouble in our real world. Would it stop if people were using the Internet correctly? Hopefully, in time to come, there will be a lot more people aware of what is happening and this will help the situation improve.
Of course, millions of people across the globe do not have Internet access, through unavailability or lack of finances, but a third of the population does go online.
The Internet is a place where very upsetting things can happen, like cyberbullying. Let’s face it, it is easier for bullies to get away with it as they can hide behind a screen and usually no one knows where they are.
Victims can try and block them (if they can) and report them. Some sites, though, don’t read their reports in which case nothing happens.
Don’t let this article put you off the Internet but be aware of the importance of adhering to age restrictions. They are there for a reason!
