Moyes takes over at West Ham
David Moyes (a well-known English football manager) has replaced the previous West Ham manager, Slaven Bilic. He is on a six-month contract that could turn into a longer deal if the players at West Ham think he’s good enough!
To put it mildly, West Ham were playing poorly in the Premier League because they lost every single match.
First of all, they started their losing streak with a hefty 0-4 defeat at the hands of Manchester United. Following on from that embarrassment, they lost to Southampton 2-3 and matters got worse when Premier League new boys Newcastle beat them by the same scoreline. More defeats at the hands of Tottenham (2-3), Brighton (0-3), Liverpool (1-4) and it was time for Billic to pack his bags and say goodbye.
David Moyes said that he is still “a good manager” as he met the press after taking over at West Ham.
At a news conference at the London Stadium, he added, “It’s good for me, I am back in, it’s what I do. I want to do well, I want the team to do well and it’s good for West Ham. I think I am a good manager.
“Sometimes you have to repair things and I have things I need to repair,” he said. “My biggest challenge is to get the team ready and the games come thick and fast.”
Moyes’ record is far from flawless. At Manchester United he won only won 27 out of 51 games and then got sacked. (Now that Manchester United have a better manager they are winning a lot more.)
How long will Hammers’ fans give him to transform their club’s fortunes? They may have to more patient than they would like.
