BEST GOOGLE TIPS, TRICKS AND EASTER EGGS: PART 1
Of course, there are several things you can do on the Internet including playing games, watching YouTube, becoming a star on social media (age-permitting) and many, many other things. However, the Internet can also be a bit of a bad place, with cyberbullying increasing to an alarming level. But today we are going to be focusing on the positives. Here are my best Google tips, tricks and Easter eggs. Alright, let’s do it!
Coming in at number 9, we have ‘do a barrel roll’ – you’ve maybe tried it, but if you haven’t go onto your computer or laptop and search in the words do a barrel roll, then click I’m feeling lucky, the Google search results page will flip a full 360 degrees. If you click it twice, the page will turn backwards. It’s a popular one, which is why it is taking my number 9 spot.
Next up at number 8 is the slightly less known Google Gravity. Yes, thanks Mr. Doob for inventing this one. Like the previous one, you have to have the words I’m feeling lucky, otherwise this won’t work. If you visit the Google homepage and search Google Gravity, the entire results page will be affected by gravity and will drop everything on the screen to the bottom of the monitor. (This is a great prank to pull on your friends as they will think they have broken the computer!)
My personal favourite up at number 7 is Google Pac-man. Yes, the old game from the 80s is back. This loud and proud game makes a stunning return as a Google Easter egg. The game where you play as a yellow circle trying to eat orbs, while being hunted down by ghosts, is achieved by going on Google and searching ‘Google Pacman’, then clicking I’m feeling lucky. You will be brought up to a grey page with a button that says insert coin. Click this mystery button and use the arrow keys to control bite-sized Pacman. Don‘t forget, the larger orbs will turn all the ghosts a dark shade of blue, then you can eat them. They will then turn back to their normal selves after 10 seconds, so be aware.
Taking the number 6 spot is another of my favourites, Zerg Rush. You’ve probably seen Toy Story, the movie about lost toys going on an adventure to return back home to their faithful owner, all while trying to avoid the hands of the dreadful Sid. Well, if you type Zerg Rush, the monitor will shoot little ‘o’s at you, and destroy search results that aren’t pointed at with the mouse pointer. If you click I’m feeling lucky, this is a quicker way to get to Pacman, as other little search results will appear at the top. You click on these and they will bring you to that Easter egg.
My Top 5 will feature in a second article that will appear on the YJA website soon!
