Today at Monks Abbey Primary school the pupils were treated to an awesome storytelling experience from professional storyteller Nicky Rafferty.

Professional Storyteller Nicky Rafferty

A story in full flow with pupils from Monks Abbey Primary School

Nicky set up shop in the school gym with a bag of props and bundles of energy. Nicky told some famous stories that we all know and love, like ‘The Boy Who Cried Wolf’ and ‘The Tortoise and the Hare’. She explained that these were known as Aesop’s Fables. Nicky went on to explain that Aesop was believed to be an Ethiopian slave and storyteller that lived in ancient Greece between 620 and 564 BC many many years ago.

Nicky, being a professional storyteller, also had her own stories that she spoke and acted out for us. The stories were amazing and had all the children laughing and signing along. One of the best stories was about a Chinese boy named Ding who fell down a well and had to be rescued by the family gardener.

Of course the team of Young Journalists from Monks Abbey were eager to interview Nicky and find out a little bit more about what a storyteller does and how she became one. Listen below to our interview with her.
