Skills Show 2017
On the 17th November, Year 9 attended the skills show, an event to advertise future careers at NEC Birmingham Skills Show.
At the event, there were many varieties of activities to take part in such as team building exercises, virtual reality (VR) headsets were available, and there were also refreshment stalls and shops such as Starbucks.
There was a wide range of occupations, varying from make-up technicians to Army recruits, and we got the opportunity to talk to people that were experienced in the field they want to pursue.
To go along with the Army section, there was an army band that played music for their audience, such as; Human by Rag N Bone man, Mr Brightside by The Killers and many more.
Many other schools attended for the sole purpose of expanding students knowledge of careers available to them, some being; Boston Grammar School, Winstanley Community College and Woodland Middle School.
Year 9 thoroughly enjoyed the trip and some students have some comments about it.
Abi Dowding stated: “It was easy to get lost in the huge space that was the N.E.C and time flew by” whereas Katie Chapman told us: “To improve next year, the Skills Show should have more of a diverse range of jobs to fulfill people’s wishes.” Also, Imogen Mason commented: “It was good because of the amount of different areas they covered.”
Overall, the Skills Show was successful and a great trip.
