Has Thor Really Got a Sister?
Last week a new Thor movie, Thor: Ragnarok, rolled out into the cinemas, costing over one hundred and fifty million pounds. So far in just these seven days, box office receipts have been a staggering hundred million pounds so costs will soon be covered.
Let’s check out the cast, well their characters anyway. So there’s Chris Hemsworth/ Thor obviously, Tom Hiddleston/ Loki (Thor’s brother), Anthony Hopkins/ Odin (Thor’s father but you probably knew that), Idris Elba/ Heimdall (he’s on Thor’s team), Stan Lee/ creepy barber, Jeff Goldblum/ Grandmaster, Cate Blanchett/ Hela (his sister, I’ll get to her later), Mark Ruffalo/ Hulk, Karl Urban/ Skurger, Tessa Tompson/ Valkyrie (she’s on Thor’s team too). Well that’s it, well it’s not there’s lots more but you can watch the movie for yourself and find all of the characters!
Reviews have been mixed. The NY Times film critic wrote: “The story is an uninteresting thicket of brawls, machinations and coincidences, but the director Taika Waititi has a charmingly human touch and a gift for turning goofiness and gab into personality.”
The Indian Times critic disagreed: “Filled from start to finish with its own quirky flavor, ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ is another entry from Marvel you simply cannot miss!”
SPOILER ALERT!!!! Right, back to Hela. As mentioned, she’s Thor’s sister. When she was younger she had the misfortune of being locked away by her father. Why? because she was very powerful as a child (even more powerful than her father). But… when her father eventually dies the spell breaks and Hela is then free. Soon enough, she finds Thor, and she’s evil so (well it’s not that hard to guess) she wants to kill Thor. So they fight – oh and here comes a good bit – as you know Thor’s hammer is impossible to pick up –but not for Hela. So Thor throws his hammer but not only did she hold Thor’s weapon she crushed it as well! But, of course, Thor won and poor Hela was banished into another world never to be seen again.
As one critic suggested, the film gives new life to Thor’s storyline and raises the bar for the Marvel universe.
Thor: Ragnarok is now playing in a cinema near you.
