Most people think boxing is for adults. But as an amateur boxer myself I will tell you what it takes to be a boxer and fight!
It takes hard work, practice, dedication and determination. But it’s not just that, it’s also listening. For an amateur boxer like me the first fight is called a ‘Skills Bout’ which is where you don’t go full on it’s just based on skill and there is no winner it’s just a draw.
During your first bout the judges look for movement and defensive technique. We use that because if you just stand static, then you will get hit. Like Mike Tyson famously said “everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face.”
I currently train with SFK – Skegness Freestyle Kickboxing Gym if you would like to get involved or find our more check out their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100057687690064
My first ‘Skills Bout’ will take take place on Saturday 25th February in Boston, Lincolnshire. I will be reporting from this ‘Skills Bout’ so stay tuned for more information.
