As mock exams have recently finished, many students have had difficulty dealing with the stress caused by the revision and the pressure. To prepare for major exams, these exams are required for pupils, yet many need help to cope. However, is all stress negative?
Studies show that stress can, to an extent, improve exam performance. When we are stressed, adrenaline and cortisol are released hormones. These hormones give us what might be described as a “kick”.
Adrenaline is known to send someone into action. This is known as a “fight or flight” response. This rush of adrenaline we are given sends us into action, which can make revision more effective and keep us motivated to maintain hard work.
Cortisol, on the other hand, increases blood sugar levels and can help us gain an energy boost. This allows us to continue studying for a longer time.
However, high stress is also something to watch out for. More harm is done if the stress levels are higher than the needed amount for the best results. To make sure you are feeling your best, there are many things you can do. Sleeping more than eight hours, eating healthily, and finding productive hobbies are all advised.
