F1 Welcomes GMC

Formula one has announced on the 25th of November 2024 that a new motorsport team will be joining the FIA Formula One world championship grid for the 2026 season.

F1 has reached an ‘agreement principal’ with the car brand GM for its famous Cadillac brand to join the grid and FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem who, has long advocated the acceptance of the 11th team, is ‘fully supportive’ of General Motors 2026 F1 entry.

General Motors Company is the largest American multinational automotive manufacturing company, established on the 16th of September 1908, which is widely known for manufacturing four automobile brands: Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and the Cadillac. According to sky sports, the team will add an additional 2 drivers to the grid and give the current drivers a challenge as it is said that they will be running their own engine by the end of the decade.

We spoke to a long time Formula 1 fan from Bristol, who has witnessed the action in person, to get an insight of what the public think about the new change to the world of motorsport: “The team currently races in IndyCar so they would already have some good tactics and knowledge about the sport. But F1 is extremely technical so I wouldn’t expect them to do very well for the first few seasons”.

What do you think about GM landing on the grid in upcoming years?
