Flight delays in the Middle East leaves thousands stranded

After Israel and the US launched strikes on Iran, many airlines are being left no choice but to cancel, suspend and divert flights across countries in the Middle East, including UAE (United Arab Emirates), Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and several others.

According to euronews, 22.9% of flights expected to land in Middle Eastern countries on Saturday and 16.5% on Sunday have been cancelled. This means hundreds of thousands of travellers have been diverted to other airports or left helpless in await of better news.

The closure of airports in Dubai, Doha and Abu Dhabi has resulted in major airlines- Emirates, Etihad and Qatar Airways- being unable to operate. Qatar Airways said they will deliver an update on their services by 9am Doha time on Monday.

Passengers should remain hopeful as Emirates declared that operations to and from Dubai are suspended until 3pm UAE time on Monday, and Etihad announced flights to and from Abu Dhabi are halted until 2am UAE time on Monday.

However, the Foreign Office is warning British citizens not to travel to the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain unless necessary, and airlines such as Heathrow are urging travellers to check their online flight status before going to the airport.
