Gridline Racing: Adrenaline Under Control

Tucked away in the heart of Lincoln, Gridline Racing has become a hotspot for adrenaline seekers, competitive spirits, and go-karting enthusiasts. Since opening its doors in 2006, it has grown from a modest track with big dreams into a buzzing, high-octane venue with loyal customers, a dedicated team, and plans for even bigger expansion.

The business was founded by Jay Frost, who sought to create a fun and competitive environment, offering a fresh form of entertainment to the people of Lincoln. Initially, the plan included both go-karts and motorbikes, but practical challenges led to a decision to focus solely on go-karting, a move that proved both wise and successful.

Like many small businesses, Gridline Racing has had its fair share of challenges. The 2008 financial crash occurred just two years after the company’s opening, leaving many people with little money for leisure activities. More recently, the COVID-19 pandemic forced everyone to stay home, putting the brakes on in-person racing.

Despite these setbacks, Jay and his team pushed through, and in 2019, things took off. The addition of a mezzanine floor attracted new customers and gave the business a boost in momentum. Today, Gridline Racing employs 20 staff — a massive leap from the original six — offering exciting job opportunities and helping to power the local economy.

Safety is taken seriously here. Jay describes their safety measures as “over the top,” but that’s precisely what makes the experience feel trustworthy and reliable. With safety videos, trained marshals, and strict protocols, visitors can focus on racing without worrying about risk.

Gridline also runs special race nights every Tuesday, drawing racers from across the region. These events have become a staple for regulars, blending competition with a real sense of community and shared excitement.

As I write this, I’m in the middle of a session, and I must say, the latest upgrades to the karts are impressive. The new boost button gives the car a slick, powerful edge (although it does get very hot inside the suit!).

Session complete, and what an experience! The track was smooth and well laid out, the drivers were competitive but respectful, and above all, I felt completely safe the entire time. Massive thanks to Jay and his team for giving me the chance to experience it firsthand.

So what’s next for Gridline? Jay has bold plans: to replace the mezzanine and build a full two-storey track, giving racers even more space and thrills.

There are also plans to introduce kids-only races, which will expand the appeal and inclusivity of the business even further.

Gridline Racing is already a roaring success, but if Jay’s vision continues to unfold, it could soon be one of the region’s top attractions.
