Recently in the UK, Covid cases have begun to rise. This has raised concerns as the disease that caused a national lockdown three years ago may be coming back.
According to The Guardian, the daily number of positive cases has been increasing since the end of June, but scientists say that it is likely the numbers will continue to grow as winter approaches. Professor Adam Finn of Bristol University even said, “The virus is still evolving quickly and new waves are appearing throughout the year”. However, they also say that the figures are quite low compared to last year.
As mentioned in The Guardian, Covid-19 vaccines have been available since 11 September 2023, but only towards adults aged 65 years and older or people in clinical risk groups. In spite of this the government has said that in the future others will be able to buy vaccine.
But, what is the situation globally? Statista states that there are approximately 687 million cases worldwide. Also, the disease is spreading through many countries which are not armed with the vaccine.
It is not certain that the coronavirus will break out again as severely as it did previously, but it would be safe to say that the virus is on the rise. Let us know what you think and leave a comment below.
