Is the cost of living crisis leaving pets homeless?

Since January 2022, the Raystede Centre in Ringmer, near Lewes, has seen an increase in people giving up their pets – about 50% more than the same time last year.

Mr Gough, head of animal welfare at the centre, told the BBC “We are staring straight into an animal welfare crisis. It’s a crisis that affects all the species in our care.” 

This is backed up with research from ITV’s Tonight Which shows a 48% rise in enquires so far this year. An investigation for the programme shows animal shelters are struggling to cope and the old owners are very sad.
