Poor living conditions lead to fatal health complications, and have recently result in the death of a 2 year old boy in the UK.
In an horrendous turn of events, a boy aged 2 died of terrifying breathing problems in December 2020, because of extreme mould and dew in his apartment in Rochdale. Sky News reported in 2022 that Gareth Swarbrick Chief Executive of Rochdale Boroughwide Housing, the company responsible for the apartment who said, “We didn’t recognise the level of risk to a little boy’s health from the mould in the family’s home. We allowed a legal disrepair process, widely used in the housing sector, to get in the way of promptly tackling the mould. We must make sure this can never happen again.”
Is this wake up call to landlords a little too late?
Rochdale Boroughwide Housing are being told they WON’T get their money without making sure that they provide their tenants with a proper, decent home to live in safely.
Let this be a warning to other housing providers who are ignoring tenants’ complaints.

Loved the use of the rhetorical question. Very poignant and hard hitting, a brief statement well placed.
A thought provoking piece of journalism that both informs, educates and brings to light a real problem that affects many people and sadly took a young life. It is written both eloquently and with real empathy and feeling from the writer
Concise and informative piece with a hard hitting closing statement.
