The best season of the year is festive time; aka Christmas…For this young journalist!
It’s such an exciting and magical time of the year, especially for the little ones. As you know children want presents, but from where do they get the ideas from?
During the holiday season, companies often create ads that are shown towards getting products in the minds of children. They use flashy, eye pleasing animations and catchy songs to grab their attention; This makes them want it.
These ads usually show toys and games that kids might want for Christmas. They will try to make them seem cool and make children feel like they really need those items. Parents should understand that these adverts are to encourage kids to often ‘beg’ for presents. Multi-billion-pound corporations have been accused of showing clever and some would say non-empathetic advertising techniques for families to spend money which they may not have.
To prevent this, talk your children into questioning what they see in these ads. This doesn’t only apply to Christmas though as these style of adverts are global and all year round.
Let us know below what your thoughts are on adverts such as the Christmas ones described in this feature.

Advertising can be really damaging – it sets very high expectations as to what parents should be able to give their kids for Christmas! Important article to write!
