This year COP 27 has faced many problems, one of them being, 19-year-old Greta Thunberg’s decision NOT to attend this year’s meeting even after her protests in 2018.
COP 27 is a yearly meeting (6 Nov-18 Nov) where world leaders and activists meet to discuss countries justice of climate change. Famous activist Greta Thunberg has decided not to attend this year. She has openly stated that it will be too crowded for people, like her, to protest about this situation.
“The Cops are mainly used as an opportunity for leaders and people in power to get attention, using many different kinds of greenwashing,” she said.
Greenwashing involves making a claim to trick consumers into believing that a company’s products are environmentally friendly or have a greater positive environmental impact than they do. An example of this is the world-famous car company Volkswagen. Volkswagen admitted to cheating the test to check for carbon fitting various vehicles with a “defect” device. This made it so that it could detect when it was experiencing this test and alter the performance to reduce the carbon levels.
Greta Thunberg is one of the biggest influences for climate change for our generation. Do you think it was the right decision for her to drop out COP 27?
