Dronfield Victorious in NLD Colts Cup Final

On Sunday the 15^th of May, Newark lost to Dronfield in a domination of a match, 28 to 14 in Dronfield’s favour. This game was riddled with penalties, tries and kicks.

Dronfield would have come out of the gate with a try if not for a knock on giving a scrum to Newark on their try line. The next highlight was a brilliant Newark intercept which gained back their half but was followed by high tackles and knock-ons all from Newark. The first try was by Dronfield, which was then turned into a successful conversion; this was again followed by the same thing happening again giving a score of 14 – 0 to Dronfield, but all things came to an end with a penalty against Dronfield and then a brilliant intercept try from Newark; which was then converted leaving the score at 14 – 7 in Dronfield’s favour. Then trying to increase the point gap, Dronfield got a disallowed try. This was then followed by a successful kick over the posts, which is very uncommon at this level, scoring three points for Dronfield; with now 17 – 7. This was the end of the first half.

It was an eventful start, with both teams committing illegal actions. This was then followed up by a try for Dronfield but without a successful conversion leaving the score at 22 – 7. Newark then proceeded to give penalties and scrums to Dronfield, in which one of them were used for a kick to the posts which scored. Now 25 – 7, Newark pushed Dronfield back to their try line but got stopped when a clash of heads caused the referee to invoke a concussion check for Dronfield Number 10. The test came back negative, and it was a Newark scrum five meters away from the try line. There were then several knock-ons from both sides. Next Newark score and convert a try, bringing the score to 25 – 14. Then a successful kick of the posts for Dronfield brought the score to 28 – 14, at which it did not change.

The game had equal opportunities for each side, but Dronfield took these chances and won the game from it.
