Nye – A Life Changing Play

Actor Michale Sheen will be portraying Nye Bevan creator of the National Health Service (NHS) in the London stage production which explains the origins of our world famous health care system.

Nye is a play about a man’s dream turning into the NHS. Michale Sheen, who has played previous roles like Aziraphale in Good Omens, and The Bartender in Passenger, plays Nye Bevan, creator of the NHS. The play is written by Tim Price who has previously written Salt, Root and Roe, and The Internet Is Serious Business. 

The play opened on the 24^th of February and is meant to spread awareness about the story of the NHS and how Nye wanted to make sure everyone had the equal right to free health care.

Though the play is being put on in London, people are going to have many opportunities to watch it all over the country, as some theatres are having it live streamed from The National Theatre in London. You can see the play in, Skegness Embassy Theatre, any Odeon Theatre or Cineworld. 

Nye is an inspiring play that points the public towards the big issues facing the NHS. Presently, the NHS is experiencing a funding crisis causing health professionals to go on strike for being severely underpaid and the never-ending waiting lists for patients. 

So could Nye’s dream be turning into a nightmare? With the government’s apparent claim that the NHS is being better, for an example Rishi Sunak saying “What I would say to people is: look, we have invested record amounts in the NHS: more doctors, more nurses, more scanners. All these things mean that the NHS is doing more today than it ever has been. But industrial action has had an impact.”

So could this play change the perspective of the general public towards the NHS and teach them the story of how one man changed the United Kingdom forever.
