Financial Fair Play?

hard cash on a briefcase

In a shock outcome Everton Football Club finds itself with a huge 10-point deduction, sending shock waves through the Premier League. The football community has mixed views on the decision, with Everton FC and their fans up in arms with this unexpected setback for the Toffees.

The FA rules state that you cannot lose more than £105 million in a rolling three-year period. Everton are said to of lost £124.5 million. The club has admitted to spending more money than they should, but only up to £114.7 million pounds.

Losing these points will be a big setback for the club as they stand to lose over £100 million. The team has shown signs that even with this deduction, they could escape from relegation from the premiership.

With three other poor teams in the Premier League and having Sean Dyche as their manager, Everton have a good chance of coming through this.

    1. Very interesting article Will, am wondering when there will be a decision made on Man Cities and Chelsea’s financial breaches!
Hope to see an article from you when that happens!

  1. Good article, unfortunately these clubs know the rules and push the boundaries, and given that they faced near relegation last season and that was with the over spending I can see this having a lasting effect on the club . Lets see if the rules still stand when Manchester City face there hearing!

  2. An interesting article, Will. I am not a big football fan but it is interesting to hear how big clubs are being punished.

  3. Loved the article. A long hard season ahead for Everton. Who will be next I wonder to fall foul of this

  4. This seems to be a hot topic at the moment, Everton fans obviously are frustrated that they have had a points deduction while other teams seem to have avoided it.

  5. Great read. I do wonder how the FA will ensure these rules are applied fairly. Given the partisan nature of many fans I suspect some will assume there will be backroom.deals and favoritism.
